Social Inquiry invites you to the first Ideas In Action for 2007.

Fourth Friday of the month Feb - Jun, Aug - Nov. 5pm - 6.30pm (note later start). This year the IIA seminars will be conversations between invited guests and members of the Social Inquiry area, with full audience participation

1. Academics and Activism. Confessions of a Canadian addicted to both

Gordon Laxer, a professor at the University of Alberta (Edmonton), engages in conversation with Professor James Goodman (Social Inquiry at UTS) on academics and activism. Laxer is the head and co-founder of the University of Alberta-based, Parkland Institute, a research network which has been described as the unofficial opposition in his
conservative province. Laxer outlines how academics can successfully keep a foot in both worlds. He describes the practice as becoming 'bilingual and bicultural'.
